At Our Simple Things, we’re a family-owned skincare brand based in Houston, Texas, dedicated to creating natural, effective, and affordable products. Our journey began when I, Melissa, experienced severe PUPPs rashes during my first two pregnancies. Determined to find a natural remedy during my third pregnancy, I developed the Grounded Tallow Balm. Encouraged by my midwife, who shared it with other expectant mothers experiencing similar discomfort, we received positive feedback that inspired us to start this venture. Yes, we embarked on this journey when I was nine months pregnant—some might call it crazy, but sometimes it takes a bit of ‘crazy’ to create something truly special.

About Us
Did we decide to start a company when I was 9 months pregnant? Yes. Are we crazy? Perhaps. But crazy is sometimes what it takes to shake things up, and that’s exactly what we’re doing at Our Simple Things.
As a mother of three, I’m intimately familiar with the struggle of wanting to provide the best for your family without blowing your budget. It’s this understanding that fuels my passion for creating natural skincare products that are safe, effective, and affordable. Our products are crafted from natural ingredients that I trust to nourish my own family’s skin, and I am excited to share these with you.
This is truly a family business. My husband, Josh, is an integral part of Our Simple Things. He brings his mathematical mind and logistical skills to every aspect of what we do—whether it’s helping with formulations, fine-tuning our processes, keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes, or working with me at local markets. Together, we manage everything: formulating products, sourcing ingredients, making each batch by hand, designing and applying labels, maintaining our website, packaging orders, and shipping them out with care. Every single aspect of this business is handled by us, and we pour our love and dedication into every step.
We meticulously research every ingredient that goes into our products to ensure that each one serves a purpose and is chosen with intention. Everything we create is made to be used by our own family first—if it’s not good enough for us, it’s not good enough for you. I love gardening, making sourdough and sauerkraut, and getting creative in the kitchen. This love for nature, nourishment, and the miraculous offerings of the earth is reflected in every product we make. It’s truly amazing to witness the bounty that God has packed into creation, and it’s a privilege to share that goodness with you through our skincare.
So yes, starting a company in my ninth month of pregnancy may have been a little crazy—but then again, sometimes it’s the “crazy” ideas that turn out to be the most rewarding.
