Rosebud is the softer side of Our Simple Things.
Where Grounded is foresty and resinous, Rosebud is delicate, floral, and deeply nourishing. It was made for the face, neck, belly, babies, postpartum routines, and sensitive skin that needs richness without the intensity of essential oils or synthetic fragrance. It is the balm I think of when skin feels dry, thin, delicate, stretched, or in need of something gentle but still deeply functional.
The formula starts with grass-fed/finished tallow and organic emu oil. Tallow gives Rosebud its rich lipid base, while emu oil is included for its fatty acid profile and carrier function. Emu oil is naturally rich in unsaturated fatty acids, especially oleic acid, and I use it because it helps support dermal penetration of lipid-soluble botanical compounds. That matters in a balm like Rosebud because rosehips, rose petals, and other botanicals are not just included for scent. They bring plant chemistry that makes sense in a fat-based infusion.
Rosehips are one of the main reasons I love this balm. They are naturally rich in carotenoids, including beta-carotene and lycopene-related pigments, along with phenolic compounds and fatty-acid-associated skin benefits. Rosehip seed oil is often discussed in cosmetic research because of its linoleic and alpha-linolenic acid content, but in Rosebud I use the whole rosehip infusion for a broader botanical profile. The color, the plant compounds, and the traditional skin-care use all make rosehips a beautiful fit for delicate skin, mature-looking skin, pregnancy belly care, and skin that needs a softening balm.
Rose petals bring a different kind of chemistry. Roses are not just pretty. Rose petals contain flavonoids, phenolic compounds, anthocyanin pigments, and aromatic plant constituents that have made roses valuable in traditional skin care for generations. I use the petals as an infusion, not as rose essential oil, because I want the whole botanical character without concentrating volatile fragrance compounds.
Manuka honey adds humectant chemistry and a unique honey profile. Honey is rich in natural sugars, which help explain why it has such a long history in skin-care preparations. Manuka honey is especially known for methylglyoxal, often shortened to MGO, which is part of why Manuka honey has been studied so much. I include it because it makes sense in a balm for dry-feeling, delicate skin, but I do not use that research to claim Rosebud treats wounds, infections, eczema, acne, rashes, or any medical skin condition.
Beeswax gives the balm structure and helps it stay useful on the skin instead of disappearing too quickly. It gives Rosebud a soft protective quality that works well for cheeks, lips-adjacent areas, neck, belly, hands, baby skin routines, and any place that needs a little extra care.
Rosehips are sometimes called “nature’s tretinoin” because they are associated with smoother, brighter-looking skin and a more refined-looking texture, but Rosebud does not work like tretinoin, retinol, or a prescription active. The comparison is really about the goal: skin that looks softer, more nourished, and more cared for, especially for people who do not tolerate retinoids, acids, essential oils, or harsh actives well. Rosehips bring carotenoids, phenolic compounds, plant pigments, and naturally occurring fatty-acid-associated compounds; rose petals contribute flavonoids and anthocyanins; Manuka honey adds humectant sugar chemistry; and the tallow and emu oil base helps carry lipid-soluble botanical compounds into a rich, gentle balm for skin texture routines.
Rosebud is especially loved for the face and neck, but it is not only a facial balm. It can be used on dry-feeling hands, pregnant bellies, postpartum skin, baby cheeks, little rough patches, and anywhere skin needs gentle richness. A little goes a long way, and it is best applied to slightly damp skin.
Rosebud Tallow Balm is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, relieve, or prevent eczema, acne, rashes, wounds, infections, scars, stretch marks, inflammation, or any medical skin condition. It is a cosmetic balm made for dry-feeling skin, sensitive skin routines, pregnancy and postpartum body care, baby-gentle routines, and skin that benefits from thoughtful botanical lipid care.
- Made with rose hips and rose petals as whole botanical infusions, not rose essential oil.
- Uses grass-fed/finished tallow for a rich lipid base suited to dry-feeling and delicate skin.
- Includes emu oil for fatty acid profile and carrier function, especially with lipid-soluble botanical compounds.
- Contains rosehip carotenoids, phenolic compounds, and plant pigments from whole rosehips.
- Includes rose petals for flavonoids, phenolics, anthocyanins, and traditional rose skin-care chemistry.
- Uses Manuka honey for sugar-based humectant chemistry and naturally occurring methylglyoxal.
- Made for sensitive facial skin, baby-gentle routines, pregnancy belly care, postpartum skin, and retinol-free texture support.
- Made without essential oils, synthetic fragrance, fragrance oil, retinoids, or harsh exfoliating actives.
Everyday Use
Warm a small amount between clean fingertips and apply to dry or delicate areas as needed. Rosebud is concentrated, so start with less than you think you need and add more only if your skin needs it.
For the Face
Use a very small amount as the final step in your routine, especially over slightly damp skin or after a lightweight facial oil. Press it in gently instead of applying a thick layer.
For Body, Belly, Hands, and Rough Patches
Massage into dry areas such as hands, elbows, knees, feet, belly, or rough patches. It can be used after bathing, before bed, or anytime skin needs a little more nourishment.
For Babies or Delicate Skin
Patch test first and use a very small amount. Avoid applying near the mouth, eyes, hands that go into the mouth, or any area where the balm may be ingested.
- Grass-Fed/Finished Beef Tallow: Tallow gives Rosebud its rich lipid base and balm structure. It creates the nourishing, protective texture that makes this balm work well for dry-feeling skin, facial use, belly care, hands, and baby-gentle routines.
- Organic Emu Oil: Emu oil is included for its fatty acid profile and carrier function. It is naturally rich in unsaturated fatty acids, especially oleic acid, and is valued in topical formulation for dermal penetration support. In Rosebud, it helps carry lipid-soluble botanical compounds from rosehips and rose petals into the skin’s layers while supporting the tallow-based formula.
- Organic Rose Hips: Rosehips are rich in carotenoids, phenolic compounds, plant pigments, and fatty-acid-associated skin benefits. Their chemistry makes them especially interesting for skin texture routines, mature-looking skin, pregnancy belly care, and dry-feeling delicate skin. In Rosebud, they are infused as whole rosehips rather than used as an isolated active.
- Organic Rose Buds and Petals: Rose petals contain flavonoids, phenolic compounds, anthocyanins, and aromatic plant constituents. I use the petals as an infusion instead of rose essential oil because I want the broader botanical chemistry of the flower, not a concentrated fragrance ingredient.
- Raw Manuka Honey: Manuka honey contains natural sugars and methylglyoxal, often shortened to MGO. The sugars give honey its humectant character, while MGO is part of what makes Manuka honey chemically distinct from many other honeys. In Rosebud, Manuka honey is used cosmetically for dry-feeling, delicate skin, not as a wound-care or antibacterial treatment ingredient.
- Beeswax: Beeswax gives Rosebud structure and staying power. It helps the balm remain useful on the skin and creates a soft protective finish without relying on synthetic waxes or stabilizers.
Scent Note
Rosebud is not rose scented. It has a very soft, natural aroma from tallow, emu oil, rose-family botanicals, honey, and beeswax. It does not contain rose essential oil, synthetic fragrance, fragrance oil, or hidden scent blends.
Texture Note
Rosebud is a soft balm, not a whipped tallow product. It melts with the warmth of your skin and should be used in small amounts.
Retinol-Free Note
Rosebud is not tretinoin, retinol, or a retinoid alternative in the drug sense. It is a retinol-free balm for people who want softer, smoother-looking skin without harsh actives, acids, essential oils, or synthetic fragrance.
Rosehip Chemistry Note
Rosehips contain carotenoids, phenolic compounds, and plant pigments that make them especially interesting in skin-care formulas. In Rosebud, they are infused into a fat-based balm rather than used as an isolated extract.
Honey Note
Manuka honey contains natural sugars and methylglyoxal, often called MGO. I include it for its humectant chemistry and unique honey composition, not to make wound-care, antibacterial, or medical treatment claims.
Baby-Gentle Note
Rosebud can fit baby-gentle routines, but patch test first and use only externally. Do not use on open skin, inside the mouth, or anywhere a baby may ingest the balm. Because it contains honey, avoid use where a baby may lick or mouth the product.
Face Note
For the face, start with a very small amount. Rosebud is rich, and a little goes a long way. Apply to slightly damp skin, especially at night or over a lighter oil.
Pregnancy and Postpartum Note
Rosebud works well for belly care, dry-feeling skin, and postpartum skin routines. If pregnant, nursing, or using on infants, patch test carefully and ask a qualified healthcare professional if you have concerns.
Medical Note
Rosebud is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, relieve, or prevent eczema, acne, rashes, wounds, infections, scars, stretch marks, inflammation, or any medical skin condition.
Color Note
The rose hips, rose petals, honey, and beeswax may give Rosebud slight natural color variation. This is normal for a small-batch balm made with real botanicals.
Patch Test
Patch test before use, especially if your skin is sensitive, reactive, or prone to breakouts. Avoid applying to broken skin, open wounds, mucous membranes, or areas that are actively irritated.
Baby and Nursing Note
Rosebud is one of our gentler formulas, but it should not be applied where a baby may ingest it. Do not apply to nipples before nursing, and check with your healthcare provider if you have concerns.
Shelf Life
Best used within 9 to 12 months of opening. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct heat or sunlight. Always use clean, dry hands or a clean tool when applying.
Is Rosebud Tallow Balm rose scented?
No. Rosebud is not rose scented in the way most people expect from rose skincare. It does not contain rose essential oil, synthetic fragrance, fragrance oil, or hidden scent blends. Any scent is soft and natural from the tallow, emu oil, rose-family botanicals, honey, and beeswax.
Does Rosebud contain essential oils?
No. Rosebud is made without essential oils. The rose buds, rose petals, and rose hips are used as whole botanicals, not as essential oils.
Is Rosebud a good everyday tallow balm?
Yes. Rosebud was made to be one of our most versatile everyday balms. It can be used on the face or body when tolerated by your skin, and it is especially nice for dry patches, delicate skin, hands, belly, and simple daily moisture.
Can I use Rosebud Tallow Balm on my face?
Yes, if your skin tolerates it. Use a very small amount, especially if you are new to tallow balm or have oily or acne-prone skin. Rosebud works best as a final moisturizing step, often over slightly damp skin or after a lightweight facial oil.
Is Rosebud a natural alternative to tretinoin?
Rosebud is not tretinoin, not a retinoid, and not a replacement for prescription skincare. The reason this question comes up is because rose hips are often discussed in aging-skin routines for their naturally occurring carotenoids, polyphenols, vitamin C, and, in some rosehip oil literature, trans-retinoic acid. Rosebud uses whole rose hips in a tallow balm, so I think of it as a gentle, botanical, everyday option for people who want moisture, softness, and collagen-conscious skin care without using a strong active.
Does Rosebud support collagen?
Rosebud is not intended to rebuild collagen or treat skin aging. It can, however, fit beautifully into a collagen-conscious routine because it supports the look and feel of moisturized, supple skin and includes rose hips, high-MGO Manuka honey, tallow, and emu oil, which were chosen for their traditional use, skin-supportive chemistry, and role in everyday nourishment.
Why does Rosebud contain rose hips?
Rose hips are known for naturally occurring vitamin C, carotenoids, polyphenols, and antioxidant-rich compounds. Because Rosebud is an oil-based balm, I do not present it as a vitamin C serum. I use rose hips as a whole botanical for their traditional use, plant chemistry, and role in a gentle, everyday skin-care formula.
Why does Rosebud contain Manuka honey?
Rosebud contains high-MGO Manuka honey. MGO stands for methylglyoxal, one of the compounds Manuka honey is known for in skin and wound-care research. In this balm, Manuka honey is used as part of a cosmetic formula for its humectant feel, traditional skin-care use, and ingredient purpose.
Can I use Rosebud on babies?
Rosebud is one of our gentler balms, but patch testing is still recommended. Avoid applying it near the mouth, eyes, hands that go into the mouth, or any area where the balm may be ingested. Check with your pediatrician if your baby has a medical skin concern.
Can I use Rosebud during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Rosebud does not contain essential oils or synthetic fragrance, and many people prefer that during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or dealing with a medical concern, check with your healthcare provider. Do not apply to nipples before nursing.
Is Rosebud good for eczema-prone or rash-prone skin?
Rosebud is not intended to treat eczema, rashes, itching, or any medical condition. It was made as a gentle, essential oil-free moisturizer for dry, sensitive, or easily overwhelmed skin. For medical skin concerns, check with a qualified healthcare professional.
Is Rosebud good for aging skin or skin texture?
Rosebud can be a nourishing part of an aging-skin or texture-focused routine because it supports the look and feel of moisturized, supple, cared-for skin. It is not intended to reverse aging, rebuild collagen, treat scars, or replace retinoids, but it is a soft everyday balm for dry, delicate, or mature-looking skin.
Is Rosebud safe for acne-prone skin?
Everyone’s skin responds differently. Rosebud is rich, so acne-prone skin should start with a very small amount and patch test first. If your skin prefers lighter moisture, Radiance Facial Oil may be a better first step.
How much Rosebud should I use?
Start with a rice-grain to pea-size amount depending on the area. Warm it between your fingers and press or massage it into the skin. A little goes a long way.
- Radiance Facial Oil for an extra layer of glow and hydration
- Revive Face Mask for a gentle, softening mask routine before applying facial oil or balm.
- Best paired with the Rosebud Bundle or Facial Trio for a full routine

Rosebud Tallow Balm
Looking for a rosehip tallow balm for sensitive skin, face, belly care, baby-gentle routines, or retinol-free skin texture support?
Many people search for things like “rosehip tallow balm,” “rose tallow balm,” “tallow balm for face,” “tallow balm for sensitive skin,” “tallow balm for baby skin,” “pregnancy belly balm,” “postpartum skin balm,” “retinol-free skin texture balm,” “collagen-supporting balm,” or “natural alternative to tretinoin” because they want soft, nourished-looking skin without harsh actives, essential oils, or synthetic fragrance.
Rosebud fits that search intent, but it is important to say it accurately. It is not tretinoin, retinol, a collagen drug, an eczema treatment, an acne treatment, or a scar treatment. It is a rose-infused tallow and emu oil balm made with rose hips, rose petals, Manuka honey, and beeswax for dry-feeling skin, delicate facial skin, pregnancy belly care routines, postpartum skin, baby-gentle routines, and sensitive skin care.
The ingredient chemistry is why the balm makes sense. Rosehips bring carotenoids, phenolic compounds, and fatty-acid-associated skin benefits. Rose petals contain flavonoids, phenolics, anthocyanins, and aromatic plant constituents. Manuka honey contributes sugar-based humectant chemistry and naturally occurring methylglyoxal. Emu oil supports the carrier function of the formula for lipid-soluble botanical compounds. Rosebud is gentle in feel, but it is not simple because nothing is happening. The formula is gentle because the chemistry is used with restraint.

I love the Rosebud Tallow. It does not have a scent really, but I prefer that. I have seen a huge difference in my neck and around my eyes. I put it on at night and over my face and neck, my face feels hydrated every morning. I even use it on my nail cuticles during the winter.
Melts beautifully into your skin! Feels luxurious, but incredible results as well. Super hydrating!
This is such an awesome tallow balm. The texture is amazing and feels lovely on my skin. I have noticed a more even skin tone and reduction in textured scars, plus I feel like it just supports my skin’s health overall. I rarely come across brands that are as transparent about their ingredients — and why they use them — as this one. That alone makes me so happy to use their skincare, and makes me genuinely trust them. It’s pretty unusual to see a brand doing whole substance-infusions in their skincare, like rose petals in this tallow balm. Many are content to just use essential oils which aren’t very good for the environment, and are usually sorely lacking in some of the greatest benefits whole natural substances offer.
I find this tallow absorbs well on its own, but I do use a hydrosol which helps it absorb even quicker. This is true for all oils and butters in my experience.
By far my favorite tallow/clean moisturizer that I have ever used, and I have tried a lot of brands. I use it every night, and my skin is luxuriously soft in the morning. I struggle a lot with acne and oily skin, but this tallow has cleared my skin up so much (along with the tallow soap!). I feel like the texture has improved as well, which, now that I’m in my thirties, is even more important!
