No essential oilsNo synthetic fragranceNo hidden scent blendsSmall-batch in Houston, TX

Hearth came from the kind of tired that settles into your shoulders, neck, back, hands, and feet at the end of a long day.

When I was in the thick of pregnancy, babies, nursing, rocking, carrying, and doing all the normal things that ask so much of your body, I wanted a warming balm that felt comforting without smelling like Icy Hot, Biofreeze, menthol, camphor, or a strong medicinal rub. I wanted warmth, but I wanted it to fit the way I formulate: no essential oils, no synthetic fragrance, no menthol crystals, and no ingredients chosen just for intensity.

Hearth is built around infused warming spices in a tallow and emu oil base: ginger, Ceylon cinnamon, clove, peppercorns, and turmeric, with magnesium chloride and candelilla wax for mineral content and structure. The warmth does not come from a cooling-hot menthol effect. It comes from the natural pungent and aromatic compounds found in the spices themselves.

The chemistry is what makes this formula interesting. Ginger contains pungent phenolic compounds such as gingerols and shogaols. Ceylon cinnamon contains cinnamaldehyde and related aromatic constituents. Clove is known for eugenol, a strong phenolic compound. Peppercorns contain piperine. Turmeric contains curcuminoids, including curcumin. These compounds are part of why these spices have such a long history in warming preparations, massage oils, and traditional body-care formulas.

Hearth is not a drug, and I am not using those ingredients to make pain-relief, arthritis, joint, or anti-inflammatory claims. I use them because their botanical chemistry makes sense in a warming massage balm for tired, overworked areas.

The base matters just as much as the spices. Tallow gives Hearth a rich lipid structure that allows it to stay on the skin long enough for massage. Emu oil is included for its fatty acid profile and carrier function. Its oleic-acid-rich profile is one of the reasons I use it with tallow and infused botanicals. In a formula like Hearth, emu oil helps support dermal penetration of lipid-soluble botanical compounds rather than leaving everything sitting only on the surface.

Magnesium chloride adds a mineral component, while candelilla wax gives the balm firmness and structure. I wanted Hearth to be firm enough to scoop and massage in without melting into a greasy mess, but not so waxy that it drags across the skin. The finished balm is warming, rich, and concentrated, so a little goes a long way.

Hearth is the balm I think of for end-of-day shoulder rubs, tired hands, overworked arms, stiff-feeling areas after a long day, cold feet, and those times when you want a warming ritual without a blast of menthol. It is warmth by the fire: steady, spiced, comforting, and simple.

Hearth is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, relieve, or prevent arthritis, muscle pain, joint pain, inflammation, injury, nerve pain, circulation problems, or any medical condition. It is a warming tallow massage balm made for tired, overworked areas, end-of-day routines, and skin that appreciates purposeful ingredients.

  • Menthol-free, camphor-free, and made without the sharp smell of conventional muscle rubs.
  • Uses infused whole spices instead of essential oils.
  • Built around the chemistry of gingerols, cinnamaldehyde, eugenol, piperine, and curcuminoids.
  • Formulated with tallow for a rich lipid base that works well for massage.
  • Includes emu oil for its fatty acid profile and carrier function, especially with lipid-soluble botanical compounds.
  • Contains magnesium chloride for a mineral-rich body-care element.
  • Uses candelilla wax for structure and firmness without synthetic stabilizers.
  • Made without essential oils, synthetic fragrance, fragrance oil, or hidden scent blends.
  • Made for end-of-day massage, tired hands, shoulders, feet, and overworked areas.

For Massage

Scoop a small amount and massage into tired shoulders, hands, feet, back, neck, arms, or overworked areas. Hearth is concentrated, so start with less than you think you need and add more if desired.

For End-of-Day Routines

Use after a shower, before bed, or anytime you want a warming massage ritual without menthol, camphor, or synthetic fragrance.

For Hands and Feet

Massage into hands or feet, then allow the balm to absorb before touching fabrics. For a richer foot routine, apply before socks.

Where Not to Use

Avoid the eyes, face, broken skin, freshly shaved skin, mucous membranes, and very sensitive areas. Wash hands after applying, especially before touching the face or eyes.

Patch Test First

Because Hearth contains warming spices, patch test before regular use, especially if your skin is sensitive, reactive, pregnancy-sensitive, or easily irritated.

  • Grass-Fed/Finished Beef Tallow: Tallow gives Hearth its rich lipid base and balm structure. It allows the product to stay on the skin long enough for massage and creates a more substantial body-care experience than a light lotion or oil.
  • Organic Emu Oil: Emu oil is included because of its fatty acid profile and carrier function. It is naturally rich in unsaturated fatty acids, especially oleic acid, and is valued in topical formulation for dermal penetration support. In Hearth, it helps carry lipid-soluble spice constituents into the skin’s layers while balancing the density of the tallow base.
  • Magnesium Chloride: Magnesium chloride gives Hearth its mineral component. I do not use it to make medical magnesium claims, but I like the way it fits a grounding, warming body-care formula.
  • Candelilla Wax: Candelilla wax gives the balm structure and firmness. It helps Hearth hold up in the jar and gives enough grip for massage without relying on synthetic stabilizers.
  • Organic Ginger: Ginger contains pungent phenolic compounds such as gingerols and shogaols. These constituents are part of why ginger has such a long history in warming preparations. In Hearth, ginger is infused as a whole botanical, not used as ginger essential oil.
  • Organic Ceylon Cinnamon: Ceylon cinnamon contributes cinnamaldehyde and related aromatic constituents. I use it as an infused whole spice because its chemistry makes sense in a warming balm, without relying on cinnamon essential oil.
  • Organic Clove: Clove is known for eugenol, a strong phenolic compound. It is used carefully as an infused whole spice, not as clove essential oil.
  • Organic Peppercorns: Peppercorns contain piperine, a pungent alkaloid that contributes to the warming spice profile. In Hearth, peppercorn is included as part of the functional spice infusion, not as an isolated extract.
  • Organic Turmeric: Turmeric contains curcuminoids, including curcumin. These compounds are fat-loving and make sense in an oil-based infusion. Turmeric also contributes the warm golden tone and botanical depth of the balm.

Warmth Note

Hearth has a naturally warming character from infused ginger, Ceylon cinnamon, clove, peppercorns, and turmeric. It does not contain menthol crystals, camphor, capsaicin isolate, essential oils, or synthetic fragrance.

Scent Note

The scent is warm, spiced, earthy, and lightly sweet from the infused spices and tallow base. It is not perfume-like, and it does not have the sharp smell of typical muscle rubs.

Texture Note

Hearth is a firm, concentrated balm. A little goes a long way. The candelilla wax gives it structure, while the tallow and emu oil give it a rich massage glide.

Color Note

The color may vary slightly from batch to batch because Hearth is infused with real spices, including turmeric, cinnamon, clove, ginger, and peppercorns. Turmeric and spices may stain light fabrics, so allow the balm to absorb before dressing.

Spice Sensitivity Note

Warming spices are naturally active botanicals. Patch test first and discontinue use if the skin feels irritated or uncomfortable.

Pregnancy and Nursing Note

Hearth was inspired by the kind of body tiredness that can come during pregnancy and motherhood, but everyone’s sensitivity is different. If pregnant, nursing, or using on children, patch test carefully and ask a qualified healthcare professional if you have concerns.

Medical Note

Hearth is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, relieve, or prevent arthritis, muscle pain, joint pain, inflammation, injury, nerve pain, circulation problems, or any medical condition. It is a cosmetic warming massage balm for tired, overworked areas.

Shelf Life

Best used within 9 to 12 months of opening. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct heat, sunlight, and humidity.

What is Hearth Tallow Balm?

Hearth Tallow Balm is a menthol-free warming massage balm made with grass-fed/finished tallow, emu oil, magnesium chloride, candelilla wax, and infused warming spices: ginger, Ceylon cinnamon, clove, peppercorns, and turmeric.

What is Hearth best used for?

Hearth is best used as a warming massage balm for tired hands, feet, shoulders, arms, back, neck, and overworked areas at the end of a long day. It is body care, not a medical treatment.

Does Hearth treat sore muscles or stiff joints?

No. Hearth is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, relieve, or prevent muscle pain, joint pain, arthritis, inflammation, injury, or any medical condition. Many people search for warming balms using phrases like “sore muscles” or “stiff joints,” but Hearth is sold as a cosmetic warming massage balm for tired, overworked areas.

Does Hearth contain menthol?

No. Hearth does not contain menthol crystals, menthol, camphor, or a cooling-hot conventional muscle rub scent.

Does Hearth contain essential oils?

No. Hearth is made without essential oils. The warming character comes from infused whole spices, not concentrated essential oils.

Why does Hearth feel warming?

Hearth is infused with warming spices that contain naturally pungent and aromatic compounds, including gingerols from ginger, cinnamaldehyde from cinnamon, eugenol from clove, piperine from peppercorns, and curcuminoids from turmeric. The product is still cosmetic and not intended as a drug.

Why is emu oil included?

Emu oil is included for its fatty acid profile and carrier function. Its oleic-acid-rich profile is one reason I use it with tallow and infused botanicals, especially when working with lipid-soluble spice constituents.

Can I use Hearth while pregnant?

Hearth was inspired by the kind of body tiredness that can come during pregnancy and motherhood, but it contains warming spices. Patch test carefully and ask a qualified healthcare professional if you have concerns, especially during pregnancy or nursing.

Can children use Hearth?

Hearth is a warming spice balm and may be too strong for some children. Use caution, patch test, avoid the face and sensitive areas, and do not use on babies or broken skin. Our 10 year old does love it for his legs at night, though.

Can Hearth stain clothing?

Because Hearth contains turmeric and infused spices, it may stain light fabrics. Allow the balm to absorb before dressing and avoid applying directly before contact with white clothing or sheets.

How much should I use?

Start with a small amount. Hearth is concentrated, and a little goes a long way. Massage in slowly and add more only if needed.

“"In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety." Psalm 4:8 (ESV)”

Searching for a menthol-free warming balm for sore muscles, stiff joints, tired shoulders, or overworked areas?

Many people search for things like “balm for sore muscles,” “balm for stiff joints,” “warming massage balm,” “menthol-free muscle balm,” “natural warming balm,” “magnesium tallow balm,” or “tallow balm for tired shoulders” because they want something comforting for the end of the day without the sharp smell of menthol or a conventional muscle rub.

Hearth was made for that kind of routine. It is a warming tallow massage balm made with grass-fed/finished beef tallow, emu oil, magnesium chloride, candelilla wax, and infused warming spices: ginger, Ceylon cinnamon, clove, peppercorns, and turmeric.

The high-intent search language matters because it helps people find what they are looking for, but the product promise stays cosmetic. Hearth is not a pain-relief drug, arthritis treatment, joint treatment, inflammation treatment, or medical balm. It is a menthol-free, essential oil-free warming balm made for massage, tired hands, overworked shoulders, cold feet, stiff-feeling areas after a long day, and skin that benefits from rich, purposeful body care.
